I am delighted to be sharing plans for Shropshire Music Trust’s new season, having recently taken over as Chair of the Trust. It is a privilege to be following in the giant footsteps of David Waterhouse, our previous Chair, in order to continue to build on the inspirational work of Kate Hogwood, who established the Trust in 1983 together with the inaugural Trustees. Our purpose is to bring the best of classical, contemporary and world music to communities in Shropshire, and to encourage audiences to share in the joy of high-quality live performances.
As a musician, retired GP, and strategic health and care leader, I am as you will understand excited to be in this new role. It is wonderful to be working with our Artistic Director, John Moore, alongside our dynamic team of Trustees, helpers and supporters, to bring this programme to audiences across Shropshire.
I also chair the National Centre for Creative Health’s Health and Care Champions’ Network. Creative Health is defined as creative approaches and activities which have benefits for the public’s health and wellbeing. Shropshire Music Trust is contributing significantly to enabling Creative Health in the county; my ambition is for us to reach wider, more diverse audiences through our concert programme. In addition, we aim to continue to build on our Outreach activities in educational, health and care settings.
So please enjoy perusing this season's programme and book your tickets! I look forward to seeing you at the concerts.
Jane Povey, Chair
